Trip the Light is an exhibition of digital photographic multiple exposures and ceramic transfer artworks.
Dancing lightly to the music of memory, Trip the Light compresses photographs of multiple media into low-fi portraits, and sentimentally squiggles ceramic transfers. Presented is a collection of works that integrate film and new-age photography, acrylic painting, the cyanotype process, stencil-making and ceramic painting.
Layered digital photographs meet and generate stories that speak of quirky tales beyond the character of the originals. By chance, faded elements highlight unlikely sections of the images, so unusual areas become of interest, or the eye can imagine the missing detail.
The ceramic pieces are made using a ceramic transfer technique, where an image is piped onto paper, dried, and then ‘glued’ on to a clay slab using clay slip. These family portraits present almost as opposites to the digital photographs, with minimal detail, and a cartoonlike representation of special moments.
