Walbundrie in Gallery 2

July – September 2020

These paintings were created in a place called Walbundrie, a name that means “a home” and it certainly is a place of shelter and wild food. Above all, Walbundrie is a place that calms the soul and stirs the imagination. The colours are winter and the mosses and lichens are on everything. Amonst ancient granite boulders, in fantastic configurations, stand very old bleached and contorted trees. Murray pines and eucalyptuses drip with dew on foggy winter mornings. Billabong creek snakes it’s way lazily through the rock strewn hills. Walbundrie is a place that challenges one’s orientation in time and space.
Born in December, The Netherlands, moved to Australia with family in 1971. Studied Graphic Art at Swinburne College of Technology. Practiced art in Melbourne, Central Australia and Sydney. Currently living and working in Walla Walla Studio’s, Walla Walla.

Always with a deep interest in nature, from the study of which, paintings, drawings and sculptures evolve and a multitude of interests and projects.

“The sheer infinite, enduring complexity of nature inspires the contemplation of mystery which is what I find myself doing. Through art I can participate in the destruction, preservation and creation cycles of nature. The activity of art gives me peace and joy. It is the participation in this relationship that nourishes the soul.”
