Lorraine Connelly-Northey

Narrbong-galang in Gallery 2

July – September 2020

In 2011, through my role as assistant curator at the Albury/Library Museum I invited Connelly-Northey to create works of art for inclusion in the Mining the Collection exhibition at the then Albury Art Gallery (now MAMA – Murray Arts Museum Albury) of which Connelly-Northey donated to the gallery. In 2017 MAMA commissioned Connelly-Northey to create On Country, a major artwork based on the waterway that binds our twin cities Albury and Wodonga together for MAMA’s permanent collection.

Art Partners Australia, through its commitment of supporting local artists is excited to exhibit Connelly-Northey as part of the [email protected] exhibition.

Lorraine Connelly-Northey is a descendant of the Waradgerie (Wiradjuri) peoples and creates innovative objects and installations that relate to the history and culture of the Waradgerie people and her personal connection to the land. Connelly-Northey uses her knowledge of traditional south-eastern coil weaving techniques to sculpt scavenged and abandoned materials such as tin, mesh and wire into traditional rustic objects such as narrbongs (bush bags).

Throughout the exhibition Connelly-Northey can be contacted through Art Partners Australia or directly on 0422190173. Connelly-Northey represents herself.
