Karen Brown
“Nature Up Close” in Gallery 1
Nature Up Close is inspired by the textures, colours, smells and sounds of the Australian bush.
Challenged by the beauty of the regional environment, Brown creates detailed works which invite the viewer to look closely and rediscover the ordinary, the obvious or the small and overlooked. Brown is particularly inspired by the everchanging riverine landscape of the iconic Murray River. Having previously worked in loose and abstract styles, Brown’s work is now up-close, tight and realistic to capture the minute details which inspire her art. The complex colours and textures of nature are captured with acrylic, pencil and graphite, both in-situ and in the studio.

Brown is inspired by the ordinary, the obvious and the overlooked.
“My intent is to encourage you to look closer at your own environment – the here and now, down at your feet or just in front of you – to appreciate and be content with what Mother Nature has produced.”
Accomplished in many mediums, Brown has a passion for acrylic paint, coloured pencil and graphite pencil drawing. Having experimented with loose and abstract styles, she is currently driven by up-close, tight and realistic drawing and painting.
